It looks like a new & improved version of the "random" search is on the way... FBs Graph Search :-)

The more I play best match I realize they are putting more emphasis on location than on skill level. I'm bored.

If anyone is looking for a random player, please add me at tom.clarke.961. I play all day everyday and like anything 80's and older (sorry, I'm old and can't help it) Classic Rock, 80's, 70's, 60's, 50's, Motown, Classic R&B, Love Songs, 1 hit wonders, etc. Don't care much for country but I'll play it if it means you'll play. Thanks

I just sent this email to support@songpop.zendesk.com As noted in this thread https://songpop.zendesk.com/entries/22629922 , we can not expect a response in this forum. "This forum is not a place for receiving answers on issues, it is for making suggestions." Can we please have a response to this issue: https://songpop.zendesk.com/entries/22650587 Your customers are providing valuable feedback and whether through the forums, twitter or the Facebook site there is no response to this concern. I would appreciate a response to the different concerns raised in this thread rather than the stock response from Jess simply telling is that it is "better" suggesting he knows better than the customer. Thanks To Stevesmaill for opening up this Forum discussion.  It's seriously a shame, I'm watching this thread to see if anyone gets further feedback from SP from what I received. Jess says he's a human and from the amount of emails that he responds to, I am going to make the logical assumption that SongPop only has this 1 lonely employee to answer all the questions. I got my refund from the Credit Card company. I deleted the app altogether.

If they won't post a response here, then where??? I am still waiting for a reply from them, an official statement stating their reason for implementing "Best Match" and removing the random feature. I want to hear their side, very curious to know as to whatever logic they had to come up to this decision. Because clearly, this warrants an explanation. Unless they don't care for their userbase (which I think is the case for now).

I have found that to get a response you need to submit a ticket. I have done that and have had prompt responses from Jess who is doing their best but has very little power other than to pass issues along to the developers. The real issue is that there seems to be a void in responses coming back from the developers. Please see below for the conversation I have had within the last day:

    Hello Mark,

I send all feedback to the SongPop Team, I have sent them the above forum. All feedback from customers is priceless in my opinion as a customer service member. That is why I make sure the team sees any feedback that I do. I do not have anything to do with what is implemented in the game or otherwise, I am only here to interact on a support basis.

A "stock response" as you call it is a way that a company that interacts with thousands of users a days has to deliver messages that are of the same nature, otherwise the costs for support would be exponential. The SongPop Team provided me with the information to say, which was that they thought Best Match was a better feature that they were introducing. This was not my opinion, this was the SongPop Team expressing its excitement over a feature they were adding.

Also, I'm a she, not that it matters. I love being a support member for the SongPop Community, but I would like for you to please remember that I am a messenger, not someone who has control over decisions with the company or gameplay. I am here to assist with technical and gameplay issues as best as I can. I'm sorry I do not have more information on these issues, I've submitted a report to the SongPop Team and hope to have some more answers for the SongPop Community soon.

    Thank you for playing SongPop!

Thank you very much for the very open and honest response.

First of all please accept my apologies on my gender assumption.

Honestly you do a great job in responding promptly to these tickets and it is good to know that you are an intermediary. I know being the messenger can be a tough gig.

I think that what people are trying to get across is the frustration that they feel like their feedback is being ignored and that the developers are being prideful or driven by a revenue generating idea that has not turned out to be something that has enhanced the player experience even if the developers thought it would be an improvement.

A simple statement acknowledging the concern would go a long way and would be good PR to show that it is a company that listens to their customers. Even something simple like saying "we have reviewed customer feedback and some valid points have been raised and we are discussing how to address them" would at least be a sign that people are being heard.

Simply saying (whether your words or theirs) that what they did is better and they know better than the actual players do, comes across as superior and condescending.

The bottom line is that in practice, Best Match has a number of flaws that takes away from the game experience and will ultimately cause a number of people to lose interest. We enjoyed the gameplay so much before that we did not want to see tinkering with a winning formula.

I personally tried to get along with the new system but I have gone from an addicted player spending time every day to one that has not played once in the past three weeks now.

Please accept my apology if my feedback came across as personal. That was not my intention.

    Regards,

    Mark

I wonder if the developers even play the game. If they did, they would surely see how flawed the Best Match feature is. Today I have used my 3 free "Best Matches". Two didn't reply, and one simply canceled the game.

Thank you markaustin, now we're sure that there is at least one person on the SongPop team that knows of our complaints (and I feel quite sorry for her)... but again, it's the higher ups' side that we want to hear, and they're still not responding...

What I hate most about this is that it limits the number of players we can challenge unless we want to use a powerup. I only started playing last week -- I don't have that many powerups! When I started, I was playing a ton of people, challenging a ton of people and I would delete all the ones who didn't respond within 24hrs. I wanted to play people like me, people who play all the time but now I'm having to limit myself to 3 people daily who may or may not respond in a timely fashion. It's so frustrating! Why can't we have both Best Matched and Random? I love playing against people not in my own country -- it's so interesting to see what songs are popular in both locations and what are not. Right now I'm afraid of deleting my international players because I'll never get more of them...

If you are an player outside of the US (or even just outside of Oregon), I'll love to play with you! My username is sherryillk and I play all the time. I'll do any playlist but be warned I love Glee and will use that playlist often. I'm particularly bad at Christian/Gospel, country, rap and metal so if you want to whup me on those, I'm totally cool with that.

Echoing many of the comments above. Random Player was the feature that made me pay up for the pro version - I'm a music fan and random player not only provided me with endless supplies of other music fans to play against but constantly introduced me to new music.  'best match' is like looking in the mirror and restricts who I can play against rendering the '80 challenges' fairly useless to me.

Keep best match for those who enjoy it but removing the random player feature renders the game of far less interest to me and even with the 'turn on chat' workaround for the latest bad patch I find myself playing it less and less - please bring it back.

Random player was one of the best features of song pop! I'm playing and "best match" doesn't mean they are wanting to play with a random player! the chat feature was a great addition and I don't even care if location isn't spot on, it's great to also have an approximate location.. I love the way now you can review the songs and make them your favorites. Lots of really great upgrades from the song pop people! but if they keep, I'm playing and best match they should also bring back their best feature the random player feature!

I have posted all over the net to get us some more people, it seems to be working and so, please share the petition, I'm trying to get enough people to send it to SongPop.

It's Thursday evening and I still don't have 80 opponents. This is BS. I paid for VIP and no ads. Seems to me that advertising something that you can't produce is false advertising. And the ads are ridiculous. I don't mind people who like the "Suits" playlist, but I hate the freaking commercial that comes on when you're done. Stop blowing smoke SongPop and give us what we paid for.

I opened a ticket for this same thing and got this response today:   "We are aware that some people are unhappy about the changes, but we are planning on keeping it that way. Metrics showed that people were playing more with Best Matches than with random people. Best Matches provide more quality matches than with Random."

So, I will be uninstalling today. It was fun while it lasted!

Thank you for posting Chelsea. They could just as easily add random back without removing best match, but they're just being a butt. I would play a few hours everyday daily. & have uninstalled it now. Oh well.

Thank you Chelsea. This is a clear indication of a company that doesn't give a damn about its users. Business is business. Why would they care about how we feel if they believe they'll get more money this way.

This is just so sad. Right on, it was fun while it lasted.

Sorry for double posting, but this line bugged me a lot though:

Metrics showed that people were playing more with Best Matches than with random people.

Seriously? I mean, how the hell can you play more with Best Match than with random?? Am I missing something? What sort of metric system did they use to come up with this statement?

I can also confirm that this is their official statement at the moment. It would seem that the dev's still believe that they are on the right path, but at least the reply I got from Jess indicates that all of our feedback IS being funneled to the dev's, it apparently just isn't coming through loud enough to change their minds. Anyway, this is the correspondence I have had with Jess: Support, Jan 17 19:03 (EST): Mark, Thank you for your reply. Please do not feel like you have to apologize, you love your SongPop and you want to voice your feelings and know they are being heard. Part of my job is making sure these feelings get relayed to the developers, I do my best! I have asked for an official statement, and I have sent in every forum related to the Random and Best Match Features. For now the only statement I have from SongPop regarding the Best Match feature is this: "We are aware that some people are unhappy about the changes, but we are planning on keeping it that way. Metrics showed that people were playing more with Best Matches than with random people. Best Matches provide more quality matches than with Random." I really can't say if this will remain a feature or if the feedback will change that. All I can tell you is that we really do think its great that there is such a strong community of people who love and enjoy the app so much, they are willing to make their opinions heard. I wish I had more information to tell everyone, but at this point all I have is what is aforementioned here. Thanks Again.
