This greatly limits opponents and completely ruins the fun of the game.  Fresh Planet needs to rethink or they will see what was a great game in 2012 take a big plunge in 2013!

    Worst update ever.

Whatever game designer decided that best match was a good idea (in conjunction with random being tossed out) should be FIRED.

    No joke.

Songpop has too bright a future for these decisions to continue being made by whoever blundered this past week.

Please bring back the random opponent!! It was so nice to be able to pick up games and play new people.

They've made all of these useless, and mostly buggy updates, yet months have gone by since I've reported incorrect songs/artists, and they haven't fixed them.

Now that random player is removed there is no point in playing. Choosing three players in 24 hours is useless if they don't respond. I'm not going to spend power ups to get new players. This was a great game until this latest update.

I lost 544 coins and ten playlists. Which took me weeks to earn enough coins to buy. I emailed SongPop and "The Team" said due to the instability of their  there is nothing they can do to help me.

Why play SongPop????  When at any given moment everything that you have ,coins and playlists, can disappear in a click. Terrible way to treat your players.

Random opponent needs to be brought back like yesterday! I realize you need to make money and all and that the best match feature is a neat idea, but why can't we have both to choose from??

I loved the random player option! I have some all over the world, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, even Malasia! They make the game interesting! if we wanted the best match we would go to Match.com! But this is a song game!

In addition to this being a horrible update it seems to me this company is hitting the threshold on bait & switch.  From their misleading VIP subscription model, claims of being ad free yet you still get their ads (an ad is an ad), and now this stupid change I think its time to file complaints with the the state &  FTC.

I have already bought VIP status. A lot of good that will do you I was going through this thing trying to figure out why I was having to use my power-ups in order to play when I noticed something saying that my VIP status will be expired soon. Can you believe this F???ing Bull???? . It is bad enough that a body had to pay for that. Now here is some more bull.... People are lays trying to get over on somebody. Seriously?

The most annoying thing about this change is the fact that Song Pop tries to make it seem like this is an improvement.

This is from an e-mail they sent:

The random feature has been replaced with something better: Best Match!

Best Match finds people near you with similar music taste. This feature is brand new and isn't available to everyone just yet. For now, only American SongPop users do not have access to this. You cannot opt out of this feature.

We hope this information was helpful. Please contact us if you have any further questions, we are here to help.

    Thank you for playing SongPop!

Why don't they just admit that random player was taken away and replaced with best match because they want people to have to use Powerups to create new challenges and that they hope people will pay for these Powerups?

I really hate when companies do things to screw you over, but try to make it like they are helping you and making things better.

At least have the guts to admit that this is a money grab -- pure and simple.

I can only imagine the meeting where they discussed this.  At some point, somebody basically said:  "We need to find a way to make the players feel like this is an improvement even though we're only doing this to try and get more money from them.  How can we spin this to make the players feel like they're not getting screwed over?"

How stupid do they think we are?

I paid for VIP status.  I enjoyed the game enough to pay for it, but the benefits of being a VIP are essentially eliminated with the elimination of Random challenges.

I really wish I could get my money back at this point.

I will never pay for anything on Songpop while they are trying to manipulate us!

Something else I don't like about Best Match... I sometimes work unusual hours so I'll play Songpop late at night. Best Match only finds other players in my time zone, so late at night nobody is on. I used to be able to hit random player late at night and play people in France and the UK and all over the world. I also really loved being able to play their international playlists that aren't available to me in the US. I was already annoyed by how many songs are listed as the wrong artist,or are in the wrong category, and how, even though I have the paid version of the app I am constantly getting pop ups to follow songpop on twitter or to like them on Facebook. But this has really taken so much fun out of the game. I REALLY hope the people at Songpop are reading these messages.

GET YOUR MONEY BACK!!!  ANY  MONEY PAID AFTER THE CHANGE IS CONSIDERED FRAUD SINCE WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE CHANGES.  GO TO PAYPAL AN FILE A COMPLAINT AND THEY WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY!!!

Scott you should get your money back if you paid for VIP under the assumption you would be able to send up to 80 challenges. That is the whole point behind VIP, so I think you should fight it.

I agree with everyone!!!!  I think SongPop is running thin and they are finding dumb thoughtless ways to make money and for us to use our powerups.  I thought with us paying ViP prices they would just leave it alone and think of better ways to enhance the game for music lovers but instead they are scamming all of us.  I have used 8 powerups to find best matches and all I get are stupid people who do not respond back.  What is the point of using my powerups then???!!!  So, now I only have like 56 open games and in reality only half are active.  So, we need to have random match back to invite people from all over the world to play whenever you are able to play.  Having Best Match was a way to scam all of us out of our coins.  And the faster you use your coins, the more prone you will need to use your money to buy coins.  I also think Songpop's response really is that they are running thin and too many people are playing and they are paying a crapload in royalities.  Well, they should have thought about that before  becuase now everyone will be filing fraud on them and probably a lawsuit if they don't respond or change it back soon!!!  So, everyone please consider filing something or getting your money back!!

"Random player" worked so well becausethe random players were also looking for random players! Your Facebook friends that are "playing" or your "best match" might not be looking for more games or random players!

I will say that I played Mafia Wars forever and a day even though I hated it and Zynga and after all "that", I have a pretty low bs tolerance. I just lose interest and quit playing when companies are obviously being scammy and making the game less fun with stupid ideas to try to make a buck. I have 40-50 people waiting on me and, eh. Hope I don't have alot of people wasting their "best match" on me....

This absolutely sucks! I average over 2000 games per week because I love the challenge and meeting new players online. You just took that option away. I have 3 choices to pick from now and they're all grayed out because I've already contacted them. Why does it take an act of congress for the players to get things changed but it only takes one moron on the development side to screw it up. You should be listening to the players, not the office guy who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

Just wanted to say that I am happy to see a lot more postings on this Forum. Lot's of great players who enjoy the challenge and feel the same way I do.

Everyone is right in their complaint regarding SongPop taking away the random feature. The problem is these nimrods could care less what anybody thinks. It's all about marketing and advertising. They ask for your opinion but really...they just do not care what you think. :-(

"They ask for your opinion but really...they just do not care what you think. " Yup, if you've ever gotten an email reply from them, the "Rock On" at the end comes across more as "F#%! You" Not to mention they will not respond to anything on Twitter about Random. I think there is a lot more action on here lately because the new version was just rolled out to certain regions before and now more people are getting it and you are seein continued backlash. I stopped playing a couple of weeks ago, but still get notices from this thread, so it is good to see that others are not impressed as well. People should write their complaints as reviews on the App Store. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I think a recent commentator said it best: Hit them where it hurts. Leave a two bad reviews for them in the App store.

One in the free version of the game. Another in the non-free version.

It's sickening what money can do to people.

These guys deserve everything they get.

It's true that if you have VIP you're supposed to be allowed 80 games which is now virtually impossible without the random player option. I too have used coins to find players and then they don't respond. So frustrating.

I absolutely agree with you, guys! The most interesting option regarding new challenges was removed when they took away the random user option. If they're desperate for money, they could even charge one coin for any new random challenge, but NEVER remove this option definitely. Bring it back!

I HATE the best match! It's no fun to always play someone in the same area. Some of my best, most fun opponents have been from other states and other countries. I'm not looking for a someone to hang out with or date, so I have no interest in being restricted to locals only. Please! Please return to the random player feature and open it up to a wider pool of people, or give us the option to pick random or best match.

I used a coin to request my "best match" and the player responded by deleting the game. Awesome.

  • Nu Buchanan

What really is sad, Amy, is that the person that deleted you after you spent the coin is probably some program that deletes you automatically and it probably was fake person that song pop set up to get you.  Call your credit card company and have them give you back a refund on your VIP status.  Please everyone do that!!
