You have a Classic Folk Rock list covering the 60s & 70s.Folk music seems to be enjoying a revival of some sorts today with the likes of the success of Folk artists such as Mumford & Sons,Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros,Lumineers,Of Monsters & Men,The Lumineers,Philip Philips,Cass McCombs,The Decemberists,Andrew Bird,Frank Turner,The Bowerbirds,Trampled by Turtles & Wye Oak just to name a few for inclusion of a new modern folk playlist!

I'd really like this playlist to happen & will help any way I can..Songpop has a Classic Folk Rock playlist that covers 60s & 70s but no new modern folk rock playlist.& we seem to be in a Folk resurgence right now.I would use my coins on this one ASAP

I tried to put in a few more better known acts that could still fit under the Folk Rock label too. Ill fill in some more later.  Thanks for the help! If you could, help get more "likes" or promote it.

Alexi Murdoch is a pretty major name. His song is in a commercial(All of My Days) & featured in the Away We Go flick.Bill Callahan was in a band called Smog.Blind Pilot even appeared on Ellen & she rarely showcases bands like that..Jens Lekman & Lord Huron have a lotta buzz around them amoungst internet bloggers

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Turned me onto a few artists in the process :)  I think if we get a lot I'll just use one song per artist except for maybe the 20 most popular.  I know they don't want the category to be TOO hard.  Also, from my experience helping put together the College Rock category, I know the songs have to be on itunes.  Just something to keep in mind.

I am a big fan of Gary Clark Jr & his music is solely lacking in Songpop but i wouldn't consider him to be Folk more like Texas Blues Stomp.

Since Wilco's You & I is a duet w/ Leslie Fiest would she be considered Folk as well?U could also have Conor Oberst's other side project,Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band. Also I am a huge fan of Gogol Bordello but don't consider them Folk more like Gypsy Punk.Could we consider Mark Lanegan & his other side project Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbell Folk?

Folk is pretty far encompassing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_folk_music

Re: Gogol Borello.  I hear that term "gypsy punk" thrown around when describing them alot.  Its good, but I think thats just a catch phrase they've come up with to describe their style in the press because its really a blending of different styles, as some of the best music is.  (Ive heard some americana type bands use the term "sloppy tonk" and "backporch soul") But I'd say they definitely have European folk melodies and songs reminiscent of sea shantys.

And Gary Clark Jr. I see Blues as being a type of Folk music, in which he'd definitely fit.

I would like the list to have a representative or two from all those subgenres that fall under 'American Folk Music' and those who are pushing the boundaries.  From the Irish immigrants, to Troubadors, String Bands to Cajun, Blues, etc.  You know what I mean?  Diversify it, to appeal to a broader audience, while still keeping the focus on the artists more mainstream music fans will recognize.  Hope that makes sense.  Who knows if they'll ever use this, but I think its a pretty good list!  Let me know which songs from those artists (also check and make sure they are available on itunes) you want me to add and I can add them.

Also, Ive used the quintessential festival, Newport Folk Festival's, lineups as a guide for possibilities and both Clark and G.B. have played there.
