Jazz sub-genre playlist

I agree.  There's so much good jazz out there getting left out due to what was viewed as "essential" jazz by whoever first created the playlist.  And quite frankly, that person is an idiot if Amy Winehouse is included over somebody like Michael Brecker - the single most recorded jazz artist in history.  Hell, just including her in the first place regardless of who has been left out is wrong anyway.  That's just as bad as putting a ragtime song into classical or a jazz-influenced classical piece into both jazz and classical.  Oh wait, I've seen The Entertainer in Classical and I've seen Rhapsody in Blue in both jazz and classical.  (It belongs in classical and only classical.)

There should be a jazz vocal play list or maybe one male and one female.

Agree.  More jazz catagories. cool jazz, bop, brazilian, etc... So much is missing here.

Vocal jazz and Bossa Nova have been added. But we can still think of a few more jazz sub genres. I would be willing to cooperate on a new playist.

We have over 100 playlists dedicated to the insipid, tasteless 80's, and only 4 playlists for jazz.  Please add more! suggestions:

    Hard Bop

    Post Bop

    Free Jazz

    West Coast Jazz

    East Coast Jazz

    Jazz Trumpeters

    Jazz Saxophonists

    Jazz Piano

    Jazz Drummers

I could list over 10 artists in each category above that each deserve their own playlist; for now lets just list a couple for each:

    Freddie Hubbard

    Lee Morgan

    Stan Getz

    Sonny Rollins

    Art Blakey

    Max Roach

    Dave Brubeck

    Thelonious Monk

Your first suggestions appeal most to me.

    Hard Bop

    Post Bop

    Free Jazz

    West Coast Jazz

    East Coast Jazz

    Jazz Trumpeters

    Jazz Saxophonists

    Jazz Piano

    Jazz Drummers

Especially splitting it up in the instruments played sounds interesting to me. I would learn a lot from that.

I agree with all the above......except Rhapsody can be jazz.  Listen to the Gordon Goodwin version.  However, your right, they play the classical version in Jazz.   Cool Jazz, Bop, Free Jazz, Jazz Trumpet, Miles Davis, 100 Quintessential Jazz songs of all time, Jazz Pianists, Jazz Saxophone, Freddie Hubbard, Chet Baker, Jazz Messengers, Brazilian Jazz, New Orleans Jazz, Louie Armstrong, Billie Holiday......The list goes on and on with possibilities.
